Combined cycle unit commitment in a changing electricity market scenario

چکیده
For Generation Companies (GENCOs) one of the most relevant issue is the commitment of the units, the scheduling of them over a daily (or longer) time frame, with the aim of obtaining the best profit. It strongly depends on the plant operational generation costs, which depend in turn on the choices taken at the design stage; it follows that design technical choices should also aim at determining the best generation cost structure of generating units with respect to the market opportunities. In the paper the unit commitment (UC) problem has been considered, with highlights on changes in the market scenario. The paper analyzes the relevance of some design choices (structure, size, regulation type) on the economics of the operation of gas–steam combined cycle generating units. To solve the UC problem, a recently proposed method for mixed integer nonlinear programming problems, with the use of a derivative free algorithm to solve the continuous subproblems, has been considered. The results for two GENCOs are reported: one managing a single unit and the other managing three units. Numerical examples show the sensitivity of the UC solutions to the market conditions and to the design choices on the regulation type in the evolving scenario of the Italian Electricity Market. 2015 Elsevier Ltd. The Effects of Electricity Boiler on Integrated CCHP-Thermal-Heat Only Unit Commitment Problem Based on Hybrid GA Approach
Combined cooling, heat, and power (CCHP) units can be integrated with conventional separate cooling, heat, and power production units to meet demands. The goal of this study is to develop and examine a hybrid GA-heuristic optimization algorithm for solving the unit commitment problem for integrated CCHP-thermal-heat only system with considerations for electricity boiler. When environmental emis...

Since the emergence of power market, the target of power generating utilities has mainly switched from cost minimization to revenue maximization. They dispatch their power energy generation units in the uncertain environment of power market. As a result, multi-stage stochastic programming has been applied widely by many power generating agents as a suitable tool for dealing with self-scheduling...

متن کاملCost and performance analysis of an integrated solar combined cycle with two tanks for indirect thermal energy storage
In this paper, the annual and economic performance of an integrated solar combined cycle (ISCC) with indirect energy storage tanks is investigated. The study includes four scenarios, in which the combined cycle performance was studied exclusively in the first scenario. In the second scenario, the integrated solar combined cycle (ISCC) was examined, and the use of supplementary firing instead of...
